Summary of Suzanne's Career/Girl at the Monceau Bakery:
In 1962, after having completed only one failed feature, critic turned director Eric Rohmer embarked on an ambitious plan to shoot six films around a common theme and a similar plot. With only limited resources at his disposal, the first two of his Six Moral Tales are short works shot in 16mm black-and-white. "The Girl at the Monceau Bakery" is a 25-minute sketch that sets the basic premise of the series: a young man interested in one woman is briefly attracted to a totally different girl. Shot on the streets of Paris with an easy naturalism and dominated by the young man's voice-over thoughts, it sets the tone of the series with a deft style, unforced humor, and an ironic tone. "Suzanne's Profession" expands to over 50 minutes to explore the awkward triangle between two best friends and a generous, seductive young woman they both shamelessly take advantage of. The men are callow, the women rather exasperating, the talk isn't as enchanting as in later films--and the ending feels, in retrospect, like an early draft of My Night at Maud's with the roles reversed. If his later films are more compelling and assured, the ambiguity of relationships and mercenary behavior of the characters in this early effort reveal a harsh cynicism that later mellowed into a wry irony. --Sean Axmaker

I left some information, immages, and video previews of Pittsburgh below.

Summary of Pittsburgh:
Jeff Goldblum stars in Pittsburgh, a fly-on-the-wall comedy in which the Jurassic Park and Independence Day actor plays himself taking a career hit by playing Harold Hill in a regional theatre production of The Music Man. Despite the pleas of his agent to take a plum part in a new Michael Bay sci-fi epic, Goldblum locks himself into a two-week stint in his hometown of Pittsburgh in order to help his fiance, actress Catherine Wreford (also playing herself)--cast in the musical as Hill's love interest, Marian--get a green card. The very idea of Goldblum taking on the larger-than-life role of con man Hill is hilarious, and he gamely plays up his absolute unsuitability for the job. While Golblum's anxiety goes up and up over botched rehearsals, other people in his life--especially good friend Ed Begley Jr. and Illeana Douglas--draw him into their own problems (Begley with a failed solar-power machine and Douglas with her ill-fated romance with Moby). Co-directed by Chris Bradley and Kyle LaBrache (Illeanarama), Pittsburgh is a remarkably energetic movie in which Goldblum appears to be working harder than he ever has before on screen, dancing and singing and throwing himself into a series of demanding scenes that often last no more than a few seconds. This is well worth a visit for fans of Goldblum or anyone who enjoyed the likes of Waiting for Guffman. --Tom Keogh
